Designed to promote increased flexibility and individualization for each resident’s learning plan.

Matrix point goals are tiered by percent correct on the annual in-training exam (ITE). Data supports that percent correct gives quantitative estimates of probability to pass the ABIM exam.

Matrix point goal is determined by your ITE percent correct tier and PGY year
First determine your tier, based on percent correct on most recent ITE:

Matrix Points are obtained by completing any of the above approved resources.

There is a minimum amount of points that must be obtain via conference attendance.

The remainder of your matrix point goal can be obtained in any proportion of points you choose from the allotted resources.

Academic half day attendance is required but does not have assigned points or factor into the matrix.

Failure to achieve matrix goals will result in the following actions:
-
Tier 1: If you do not meet your year-end in person requirement, you will receive a letter from program leadership documenting that you have not met the program’s expectations for learning matrix participation and informing you of the number of matrix points you are below goal.

You will have 90 days to submit certificates of approved continuing medical education (CME) activities in the amount of 1.5 hours for each number of matrix points you are below goal. Submit your certificates to ukinmed@uky.edu

You will be ineligible to moonlight.

Tier 2: If you do not submit sufficient CME certificates by the end of the 90-day period, your ILA time will be converted into assigned, in-person/supervised structured learning activities until your 90-day target is achieved.

Tier 3: If you do no not present for your structured ILA time, you will be brought before the Core Competency Committee to discuss professionalism.

If you exceed your minimum in person conference goal, you will earn the following:

PGY 1 and 2

Exceed by 30 conferences = 1 extra ILA day

Exceed by 60 conferences = 2 extra ILA days

Exceed by 90 conferences = 3 extra ILA days
-
ILA days will be given in the next PGY year (ex. If earned by your PGY 1 Matrix, you will claim them in your PGY 2 year)

Achieve minimum conference requirement by first Monday of April = Board Stipend
